Scriptural Excerpts

Scriptural excerpts are taken from the "RSV" (Revised Standard Version) of the old and new testament. RSV is a "confraternal" work in the sense that it was produced by Biblical experts which included both Catholics and Protestants. It is one of the most widely read translations of the Scriptures and the use of the English language is quite "up to date," while being faithful to the original languages. The New Testament RSV translation was finished in 1946 and the Old Testament RSV translation was finished in 1952.
Those who prefer these other landmark translations:

the King James Version of 1611 (also known as the AV or Authorized Version)

"ASV" (American Standard Version of 1901)

Douay-Rheims Version (Catholic work from 1568)

will probably appreciate the RSV since it was a cofraternal production.
